Welcome to Hotline. I’m Karley Sciortino :)

Hotline is a place to talk openly about sex, relationships, and the absurdist humiliation ritual that is modern dating. It’s part relationship hotline, part group chat, part observations from the field.

I really want Hotline to feel like a community—a place to ask the questions and tell the stories we generally avoid in “polite company.” A place to be messy, if need be.

I hope you’ll join the conversation.

Who am I?

I’m Karley Sciortino. I’ve been writing, researching, and generally yapping about sexuality and relationships for nearly twenty years.

For a long time I wrote Vogue’s sex and relationships column, Breathless. I also co-created and hosted the show Slutever, a Vice documentary series about sexuality. And, though it nearly killed me, I wrote a book in 2018, also called Slutever, which is a sort-of memoir about… well, take a guess!

If you’re in the mood for a deeper and creepier drive, more recently I hosted and wrote the podcast limited-series Sanctum Unmasked, which investigates the rise and fall of the world’s most elite sex club. I also wrote the upcoming movie I Want Your Sex about a dom/sub relationship that goes delightfully off the rails.

But my interest in writing about intimacy all started with my blog Slutever, which I launched way back in 2007. At the time I was a twenty-two-year-old college dropout living in a squatted commune in London, documenting the sex lives of my dirtbag squatmates while doing a shocking amount of ketamine (long story). Eventually I chilled out on the K, and Slutever grew into what The New York Times called "a chronicle of sexual experimentation."

Lately, I’ve found myself missing the community that blog built. I’m hoping Hotline can be a new version of that… but even better :)

What can you expect from Hotline?

I post once a week, at least. You can expect a mix of:

A sex and relationship advice column

Written by me, but occasionally I’ll bring in reinforcements to help answer your questions—sex therapists, Dommes, (good) dating coaches, and my genius/slutty friends, of course.

Personal essays

Topics may include: the dating app hellscape, keeping monogamy hot, casual sex, attachment styles, our bizarre cultural obsession with men’s height, how to get over your ex, sexting etiquette, being single (and fabulous?), kink, what to wear to a sex party, and other matters of equally vital importance.

Interviews (written & audio)

Conversations with people whose ideas, lifestyles, or love lives I admire—some on the page, some in your ears (dare I say, a podcast).

Hotline Group chat!

Subscribers get access to the Hotline chat, where we overshare, make friends, complain, confess, and ask questions—both deeply personal and delightfully trivial.

How much does Hotline cost?

$5/month (aka the price of roughly half a coffee in this hellish economy) or $50/year. I don’t paywall all content, but I do paywall the most vulnerable stuff, as certain conversations are better kept a little more private :)

Since I work for myself, and want to dedicate as much time to Hotline as possible, I truly appreciate your paid subscriptions greatly!
